THE SHORT ANSWER

Is a ghostwritten newsletter worth $1,500 to $3,000 a month?

It's worth it if one new client or referral a year would cover the cost several times over. A regular newsletter typically runs $1,500 to $3,000 USD a month, as of October 2026. However, it only pays back if you publish steadily, and I can't promise that any newsletter will bring you work.

Do the sum on your own numbers. If a single client is worth more to you than a year of newsletters, the maths is simple. If you sell low-priced products, need lots of volume, or won't spare an hour a month to tell me what you think, it's the wrong place to spend the money. And if you've got the ideas but no spare Sunday nights, that's the bit you hand to me.

WHO IT'S FOR

Who is this for,
and who isn't it for?

For you if

  • You run your own business, as a solopreneur, small business owner, founder or consultant.
  • You know well-written copy wins work, but you haven't got the hours to write it.
  • Your newsletter has gone quiet, or it never got started.
  • You can spare about an hour a month.
  • You'd rather nobody knew you had help.

Not for you if

  • You want daily social posts in bulk.
  • You want it completely hands-off, with no opinions from you.
  • You need financial or legal advice signed off. You'll still need your own reviewer for that.
  • You want a ghostwriter who'll show your work off.

Why does every week matter
more than one great issue?

Because trust builds when you keep turning up, and business buyers say as much. In the 2024 Edelman and LinkedIn B2B Thought Leadership Impact Report, 73% of decision-makers said a firm's thought leadership is a more trustworthy basis for judging its capabilities than its marketing materials. Nine in ten decision-makers and C-suite executives said they were moderately or very likely to be more receptive to outreach from a company that consistently produces high-quality thought leadership.

However, consistency is the hard part. One analysis of 75,000 Substack newsletters found 45% hadn't published an issue in more than six weeks. So every client gets a fixed send day before I write a single word.

FAQ

Questions about
working together.

Is there a minimum term?

No, and there's no notice period either. You can order one article, or a few, when you need them. If you'd like a regular cadence, keep me on, typically at $1,500 to $3,000 USD a month, and stop when it no longer suits you.

Can I hire you for a single article?

Yes. Single articles are quoted on request, and so is other writing such as email copy. There's no minimum term and no notice period.

Does a newsletter really help a small business win work?

It can, though I can't promise any newsletter will bring you work. In the 2024 Edelman and LinkedIn B2B Thought Leadership Impact Report, 75% of decision-makers and C-suite executives said a piece of thought leadership had led them to research a product or service they weren't previously considering.

Do you write LinkedIn newsletters, Substack and beehiiv?

LinkedIn newsletters, Substack, beehiiv, Kit and Mailchimp. Whichever you use, it goes out from your own account, under your name.

Can I change how often it goes out?

Yes. Tell me, and we'll agree the new rhythm and the rate that goes with it.

My newsletter died months ago. Where do I start?

With an honest restart issue that admits you went quiet and picks up where you left off. It's the first issue I'd write for you.

Will anyone find out I use a ghostwriter?

Not from me. I don't name clients, I don't share their work and I don't use it to sell mine, and I'll sign a confidentiality agreement before we start. Your newsletter goes out from your account under your name. Whether you tell anyone you've got help is your call. Read how confidentiality works.
